Mayday! Mayday!
Twenty Foot Man in performance

May 1, 2010
9:00 pm
Indent Studios
1535 SE 9th

The Twenty Foot Man will inaugurate the new and enormous Indent Studio production space with a spectacle of music, performance, movies, and moments of undecipherable entertainment.
The Twenty Foot Man is a one ton steel marionette that has been at the center of an ever-evolving performance group for nearly eighteen years. In addition to being a complex musical sculpture The Twenty Foot Man is a rare example of a work of art that propagates its own works of art. The Man plays an eight-foot long guitar, manipulates other puppets, paints pictures with giant brushes, and leads his ensemble through theatrical explorations of functional surrealism. The Twenty Foot Man is part family circus, part industrial spectacle, part rock-n-roll, and all socially engaged art.

This performance will incorporate The Man’s own ensemble, as well as contributions from members of Portland’s experimental music pioneers, Smegma. Also performing will be the hard-hitting, all female percussion ensemble, Samba Gata. Dozens of other contributors will be present ranging from six to seventy years of age. This incongruous and inclusive group will be creating a confluence of creative chaos.
